Shoe Shine Kits

May 9, 2010

One advantage about living in New York City is the convenience of finding a shoe shiner.  Keeping your shoes shined helps protect and build up the leather and, of course, makes them look good.  If unable to get to a shoe shiner, I recommend keeping a small kit in your home.  You can buy relatively inexpensive kits at discount department stores or make your own.  The one pictured above has been in my parents home since I can remember.  Here are some of the essentials items you will need –

1.  Black and brown polish
2.  Horsehair brush (best if you have 2 – one for each color of polish used)
3.  Applicator – foam daubers or used rag (old athletic socks are good for this)
4.  Polishing cloth
5.  Leather shoe cream (for the base and heals of your shoes)
6.  Extra laces
