Cleaning Your Air Conditioning Filter

July 18, 2010

With warmer weather now here, millions of people are turning on their air conditioning.  Often people neglect to clean the filter which besides costing you more money to have to produce cooler temperatures, it also impedes the air conditioning performance.  Every couple of months, you should remove the filter and clean it from dust and debris that build up from its constant use.  Using only water can create bacteria to grow and also some allergens.  You could use a little dishwashing soap but the recommended cleaning technique is to use 1 part vinegar to 1 part water.  Submerge in a low bath and soak for an hour or so.  Remove from bath and allow to dry naturally; if you us a towel or cloth it could damage the filter fibers.
