The Thanksgiving To-Do List

Before you know it Thanksgiving will be here.  Planning ahead now will help save you time, reduce stress and make Thanksgiving  a more enjoyable time for you.  Here is a weekly guide to help you in your planning.

TWO WEEKS BEFORE
– Figure out who you want to invite
– Plan menu
– Order turkey
– Begin preparing grocery list
– Check to be sure you have additional serving dishes if needed
– Clean oven

ONE WEEK BEFORE
– Confirm number of guests attending
– Begin planning out seating and table arrangements.  Will seats or additional tables be needed?
– Make adjustment to menu and make a finally, detailed grocery list

SUNDAY BEFORE
– Prepare linens, napkins, silverware, stemware, plates and serving dishes
– Buy groceries
– Depending on turkey weight, you might have to begin defrosting a few days ahead of time.   This is done by moving the turkey from the freezer to the refrigerator.  Usually it takes 24 hours for every 5 pounds to defrost
– Prepare cooking times for all the dishes

TWO DAYS BEFORE
– Try and do the majority of the house cleaning
– Bake any desserts or cold dishes
– Set up table ahead of time if you have a separate dining room
– Design and arrange seating if desired
– Design and arrange any additional decorations you might use for the table with a holiday theme

DAY BEFORE
–  Chop and prepare any dishes that can done.  Then refrigerate.
–  Brine the turkey if desired
–  This is the final day to buy groceries

THANKSGIVING DAY
–  Cook the turkey
–  Prepare side dishes
–  Have a good Thanksgiving
