Four Tips to Winterize Your Home

November 7, 2010

Now is a great time to get your home ready for the upcoming winter months. Here are FOUR AREAS TO TARGET TO HELP WINTERIZE YOUR HOME before the first freeze arrives. These tips will help in reducing your energy costs, save you some money, and the most important of all…stay warm.

1. Weatherstrip and caulk all openings in the exterior of the house. Pay special attention to areas around window sills and frames.

2. Make sure to have proper insulation in the attic and basement. It might require you having to replace old insulation if its in poor or bad condition.

3. The furnace should be properly insulated too. Check filters to make sure they are clean and in good condition. You might have to purchase new ones.

4. Check the chimney to make sure it is clean of soot and debris. The damper should be able to close properly when not in use. Also check the flashing (area the chimney and roof meet) properly sealed to prevent leaks from rain, snow and air.
